Darren Randolph has sent an emotional message to Middlesbrough fans, saying that he 'enjoyed every last second' of his time at the club.

The 32-year-old has moved to East London for an undisclosed fee just two-and-a-half years after moving to the North East from the Hammers.

Randolph was expected to complete the move last week but the move stalled after West Ham had concerns over the goalkeeper's medical results.

The stopper had been out of action for almost two months with a thigh injury, but those worries have now been subsided with the move officially completed.

Randolph was a popular figure among supporters and took the time to share a heartfelt message to the fans who have been behind him since he arrived at the club in 2007.

Posting on his Instagram account, Randolph said: "I would like to thank each & every one of the Middlesbrough fans who supported me through the 2 and a half years at the club.

"You were there week in, and week out supporting me & the team. I’ll be forever grateful for it.

"I’ve enjoyed every last second in Middlesbrough. I had the best season of my career with the club.

"When the offer came to go back to the premiership. It was a tough decision to make. I have made life long friends. But it’s the right decision for my career right now.

"Best wishes for the future, and hopefully many great years with Woody & the team. Thanks for everything, Darren."

The verdict

While his decision to leave Middlesbrough is a big blow, it's hard to argue with Darren Randolph's reason.

To get another opportunity to play in the Premier League is a huge lure for a goalkeeper  who is reaching the final few years of his career - particularly when it's with a club who he has a close affinity with.

Jonathan Woodgate's side will need to move on quickly with the hope being that they don't miss the 32-year-old too much in the months ahead.
