Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has told the club's official website that he wants his players to continue to focus on improving in Sky Bet League One this season.

The manager's comments come in the wake of the Owls having not lost a league game since the beginning of October as they continue to pursue their long term goal of an instant return to the Championship after suffering relegation last season.

Wednesday currently occupy seventh place in the league standings and are only five points off the leaders Rotherham United, having played a game more than their Yorkshire rivals.

However despite their fine recent run of form, Moore has stressed the importance of his side looking to continue to improve their performance levels moving forwards:

"My message to the players has been clear that we have to keep improving.

"We have to continue building on what we have done, keep looking forward and building on the positive performances.

"I always believe that with the right performance you get the right result and we certainly feel that performances have been getting better."

Up next for the Owls in the league is a trip to Fratton Park to take on another of the early season promotion contenders in the form of Portsmouth next Tuesday.

Meanwhile Wednesday are currently gearing up for their Papa John's Trophy tie at home to Hartlepool United tomorrow evening as they look to progress to the next round of the competition.

The Verdict

Sheffield Wednesday are starting to show the form that most people will have expected from them at the start of the season when they were tipped by many to take the division by storm.

They have however drawn more games than many will have like and the key now will be to shore themselves up defensively as we head towards the new year.

There are a good amount of players still to return from injury that should boost them further, whilst Josh Windass is continuing to go from strength to strength after coming back from being sidelined.

It will certainly be intriguing to see where they are in the standings at the turn of the new year.
