Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has revealed that he hopes to bring in up to two new signings before the January deadline.

The Owls are flying high in League One, as they currently sit second and are on course to win automatic promotion.

However, there's a lot of football to play this season and Moore explained to the Sheffield Star that they are working to improve the squad in the coming days, although he wouldn't give much away in terms of where they want to strengthen.

"I’m going to be honest. We’ll have to see. We’re trying, and we are looking to do some work still. We’re out there, and I’ll get back on the phone now. It’ll quiet down after the games now, and we’ll see if one or two of the targets that we were expecting – now the games are done – will be allowed to release them.

"The targets that I’ve looked at, if we get them, will make us better. And that’s what we want… If we can get the ones that we want then we’ll have no problem."

The verdict

This is the news that Sheffield Wednesday fans will want to hear as it's always important to try and improve from a position of strength.

Of course, the major positive is that the Owls aren't in a desperate situation and if they have to finish the season with the players they have, they will still be confident of winning promotion.

But, Moore's comments shows there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming days.
