Sheffield Wednesday had a good season this year under Darren Moore making it to the play-offs.

Sadly for them, despite their efforts, they were not able to overcome Sunderland over two legs in the play-offs meaning they now face another season in League One.

However, Moore is not spending too much time feeling sorry for himself and rather, is already looking ahead to next season as he plans for a rebuild at the club.

The Owls boss told Yorkshire Live: "We need to do some real, strategic planning and look at where the squad is at. We have got meetings and they all need to take place before I can give some strategic answers. There is still a lot of work to be done here and I will require the summer to do it.

"I have always been a determined individual and that won't change.

"I want to thank the fans for this season. They have been absolutely brilliant. We are really gutted that we weren't able to take it all the way and bring the success back in the first season."

The loss against Sunderland makes it the third time in six years that Wednesday have not been able to conquer the play-offs which is something they will no doubt be working to be able to overcome.

The Verdict:

Despite Wednesday having a good season this year, Moore is right that there is still plenty of work to be done at the club but the fact he is planning his rebuild already is promising for the fans.

The Owls boss certainly seems to have the attitude to guide his team up towards the play-offs or automatic promotion and he will no doubt be looking for players that have attitudes reflective of this for themselves.

Although it is a disappointment for them, this season was their first in League One and now they have got a taste of the league and what it takes to be successful at this level, Wednesday will be hoping they will be able to show up and do well next season.
