Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore says the club have put talks over a new contract for Callum Paterson on hold for the time being.
With Paterson out of contract at the end of this season, Moore confirmed earlier in the campaign that the club are in talks with the 27-year-old about extending his deal with the club.
But with the Owls holding the option to extend Paterson's contract by a further 12 months, they are protected from the prospect of losing him for free next summer.
Now it seems as though that has influenced the decision of those involved, to put those talks over a new deal on the back foot for the time being, judging by these latest comments from Moore.
Providing an update on the situation surrounding Paterson's contract talks, the Wednesday boss was quoted by The Sheffield Star as saying: “Pato still has this season and next year with us, so contract-wise, he’s still contracted to the football club. He’s been a player we mentioned earlier in the season and he’s a Sheffield Wednesday player.
"The contract talks have been there but we’re in a position where both club and player agree he’s still contracted to the football club beyond this season.
