Darren Moore has revealed that George Byers was taken off because of a dead leg in Sheffield Wednesday's win over Morecambe, whilst Dominic Iorfa's absence was a precaution.

The Owls continued their fantastic season by recording a comfortable 3-0 victory over the struggling Shrimpers, setting a club clean sheet record in the process.

So, whilst it was a very good night on the whole, there were some concerns, notably Byers going off at half-time, and it was a surprise when the teams were announced that Iorfa wasn't in the squad.

However, speaking to Yorkshire Live, Moore gave an update on the duo and it was encouraging as he indicated neither player should be out for a lengthy period.

"Think it was a dead leg (for Byers). He ran into the centre-back but we'll see in the morning. Dom got a kick on his calf Saturday. Bruising tightened up so we didn't take risk."

It remains to be seen whether the players will be available for the next game which comes at home to MK Dons this weekend.

The verdict

It was a concern for Wednesday when Iorfa wasn't involved as we know that they lack depth in central defence but those who did play tonight were very assured, helping Moore's men to another clean sheet.

With Byers, it seems as though it's nothing too serious and it was the sensible decision to take him off.

So, this is a positive update for the Owls support who will be delighted with how the team are performing right now as they push for promotion.
