Darren Moore makes promotion claim involving Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has stressed the importance of his side creating a fear-factor, during a recent interview with The Star.

The Owls have endured a mixed start to their Sky Bet League One campaign so far, with the Steel City side currently occupying ninth place after 14 games played.

Indeed Wednesday have only won two of their last six league games, which underlines their current defensive issues and overall problem with keeping and maintaining a lead in matches.

However Moore has delved even deeper into the problems that his side are encountering at present and has made the following claim about what the team need to do in order to be up there for promotion come May of next year:

“We have got to create that fear-factor.

“The only way you create that is winning games in my experience.

“There’s a certain DNA that you have to have (to get promoted) and the only way you create that fear-factor is winning games and driving, that’s the exact thing we want to do.”

Next up for the Owls this weekend is a trip to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium to take on a Cheltenham Town side who have an almost identical recent record to their visitors.

A win for Wednesday on the road could potentially see them go level on points with Oxford United in the play-off places if other results go their way across the division.

The Verdict

It has been surprising to see the Owls struggle so much in games recently as they have a squad that is laced with experienced players who have played at a much higher level than League One.

The likes of Barry Bannan, Dominic Iorfa and Lee Gregory really have to keep stepping up to the plate for their side on a consistent basis if they want to become a force to be reckoned with.

They are yet to really tear an opposing side apart and could really do with a string of comprehensive victories in order to get some of the fans back on side.

A victory against Cheltenham this weekend would certainly lift the mood at Hillsborough and give them a platform to go on a run.
