Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has revealed he is considering offering a new contract to defender Ciaran Brennan.

Having come through the Owls academy, Brennan was sent out on loan to National League side Notts County earlier back in September.

Brennan went on to make five appearances for the Magpies, before being recalled to Hillsborough earlier this month.

Since then, the 21-year-old has started the Owls' last two league games, helping to provide some useful cover in the wake of a central defensive injury crisis at Hillsborough, in wins over Accrington Stanley and MK Dons.

Now, with his contract at Wednesday set to expire at the end of this season, it seems Brennan's recent form have left Moore considering the prospect of an extended deal with the club for the defender.

Speaking about Brennan recent form, the Owls boss was quoted by The Sheffield Star as saying: "Ciaran’s done really well coming in. He’s got a wonderful appetite for the game.

"For a young player, every time he’s trained with us he’s always had a wonderful belief about himself.

"In terms of coming into the system that’s he’s come in to, he’s shown, for someone so young, a wonderful maturity about him. I think that’s been the biggest thing I’ve noted with him.
"Going forward, looking at his contractual situation, we’ll see.”
Wednesday currently sit fifth in the League One table, five points adrift of the automatic promotion places, ahead of the visit of second-placed Wycombe to Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon. The Verdict It would seem to make sense for Wednesday to try and secure a new contract for Brennan. The defender has been impressive since coming into the side, helping them in the race for promotion, so a new deal would seem to be a just reward for his recent contributions. Indeed, with the Owls having lost out on young players recently due to not getting contracts sorted, securing a deal for Brennan quickly here could avoid further frustration for those at the club. As a result, talk of a new contract for Brennan at Wednesday is something that could be worth keeping an eye out for over the coming weeks and months.
