West Brom boss Darren Moore insists that Dwight Gayle has done nothing wrong despite the Baggies joint-top scorer having to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks.

After missing games against Blackburn and Hull through injury, the on-loan Newcastle man has found himself on the bench as Albion have recorded three wins in a row.

Many expected Gayle to walk straight back into the side against Leeds earlier this month but Hal Robson-Kanu scored in a good display that has ensured he's kept his place.

And, Moore told the Express & Star it's simply a case of those players keeping the shirt because of their form:

"It’s credit to the boys, the way they’ve been performing. They’ve really applied themselves in the right manner. They’ve been a credit to themselves – for how they’ve gone about things, showing us what they’ve got."

The Albion boss also praised Gayle for the way he has handled the decision:

"Dwight has been absolutely superb. He’s an affectionate character. He’s bubbly, he’s energetic."

Gayle is sure to be involved at some point on Monday night as the West Midlands side host Brentford as they look to close the gap on the top two.

The Verdict

You can't really argue with Moore's decision making as West Brom have won three games in a row and the forwards are playing well.

As a manager, you have to go with players in form and Robson-Kanu would be gutted if he was dropped given how he has contributed in recent games.

However, it's a squad game and Gayle will force his way back in at some point because he is an outstanding player at this level.
