Darren Moore delivers frank statement ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s clash with Ipswich

Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has admitted that his side will need to be at their very best if they are to beat Ipswich Town this afternoon at Portman Road.

The Owls have suffered a blip in form in recent weeks which has resulted in them slipping to 13th in the League One standings.

Wednesday were seemingly on course to seal a much-needed victory over Shrewsbury Town last weekend after Saido Berahino netted his first goal for the club.

However, the Owls were forced to settle for a point at Hillsborough as Ryan Bowman scored an equaliser for the Shrews.

Set to face an Ipswich side who have only won one of their seven league games this season, it will be intriguing to see how Wednesday will fare in this particular fixture.

Making reference to today’s game, Moore has revealed that his side are determined to get back to winning ways and has predicted that the clash could turn out to be an enthralling affair.

Speaking to The Sheffield Star ahead of Wednesday’s showdown with Ipswich, Moore said: “It’s a great game potentially on Saturday, two teams who’ve had big turnarounds in terms of player recruitment and hopefully it’ll be a good, fast game of football.

“We want to win every week.

“I would be saying that whether we go into the Ipswich game with five wins or five defeats.

Jack Brown is the club's highest appearance maker.

“I’m greedy, I want to win every game, it’s as simple as that.

“We’re going to have to be at our best and put in a top, top performance.”

The Verdict

When you consider that Wednesday and Ipswich will both be looking to launch a push for promotion this season, it will be fascinating to see how today’s clash will pan out.

For the Owls’ sake, they will be hoping that the likes of Barry Bannan and Olamide Shodipo will be able to provide the creativity they will need to secure a positive result.

Having conceded five goals in their most recent home league fixture, Ipswich could potentially crumble if they are put under pressure by Wednesday.

However, another lacklustre display by the Owls may result in them losing further ground to Sunderland and Wigan Athletic who currently occupy the two automatic promotion places in League One.
