Darren Fletcher has revealed that it was an easy decision to go back to West Brom as the Scotsman prepares to start his coaching journey.

The former Manchester United midfielder had a spell at The Hawthorns towards the end of his career and he was genuinely seen as a positive influence during his time at the club.

However, his playing career is finished, with Albion confirming yesterday that Fletcher had returned to help work with the academy.

And, he told the official site why he was so glad to be back.

"It’s a great opportunity. I’m working towards my A licence and when the invitation came from Luke to do some work back at Albion it was a simple decision. I love coming back to the Club – it’s a special place for me and the moment you walk back through the doors it’s like being with your family again."

Fletcher is the latest former Albion player to join the club's staff, with Boaz Myhill and James Morrison now part of the backroom team.

The verdict

This seems like it's a good move for all concerned and it has to be a benefit for the younger players to learn from someone like Fletcher who has achieved so much in the game.

As well as that, he is someone who knows the club and having someone who understands how they operate is important.

So, it's now down to Fletcher to take the opportunity that Albion have given him and it looks as though it's a smart call from the club.
