Darren Bent has suggested that Leeds United wide man Ezgjan Alioski is an "unpredictable" player and will not want to let manager Marcelo Bielsa down.

The 27-year-old has featured 16 times in the Championship for the Whites this season–starting 12 times and making four substitute appearances.

Originally a winger by trade, Alioski has been mostly been used as a left-back or a left wing-back this season and has been part of a Leeds defensive unit that has conceded the fewest goals and kept the most clean sheets in the league.

The North Macedonia international has also been a useful player in the final third, adding three goals–including a fantastic volley against Huddersfield Town on the weekend.

Alioski's marauding runs forward can often leave the Whites a bit exposed at the back, while his defensive positioning can also cause problems for his side.

Speaking to Football Insider, Bent revealed he felt the Whites wide man was an "unpredictable" player.

He added: "You never quite know what you’re going to get from him.

“He does a job and Bielsa obviously likes him as he seems to play him more often than not.

“Sometimes he plays well and sometimes he has a bit of a ropey one.

“When the manager believes in you like Bielsa, you won’t want to let him down.”

Alioski looks set to play a part once again this evening as Leeds welcome Hull City to Elland Road, knowing that a win could see them side go top of the Championship.

The Verdict

It's tough to disagree with Bent on this one. While Alioski offers a lot in terms of athleticism, work rate and attacking output, there is no denying his performances can be hit and miss–particularly where his defensive work is concerned.

Despite that, Bielsa does seem to have a lot of faith in the 27-year-old, so you feel he would be very keen to repay that.

Leeds fans will be hoping that his displays are more up than down as the season wears on.
