Former Derby County striker Darren Bent has claimed Leeds winger Jack Clarke should consider joining the Rams or Fulham in January after failing to break into the first team at Elland Road so far this term.

Clarke returned to Leeds on a season-long loan deal after completing his move to Tottenham over the summer, but the 19-year-old has made just one league appearance for Marcelo Bielsa's high-flying side this campaign.

The winger made his only outing from the bench as Leeds overcame Luton back in November, with Bielsa opting to stick with the settled side which has seen the Whites climb to the Championship summit ahead of the festive period.

It has now emerged that Spurs are set to terminate Clarke's loan spell at Leeds when the option becomes available with Fulham, Derby and Middlesbrough all interested in the winger's services, according to Football Insider.

Speaking to the website, Bent has now claimed that Clarke would benefit from a temporary switch to either Fulham or Derby, while he also admitted he was expecting to see more from the Leeds academy graduate this term.

“I think Fulham and Derby would be good shouts, maybe not Boro because they are struggling a bit," he said.

“The facilities at Derby are brilliant, the training ground, everything they’ve got going on down there is great. Rooney has gone in there now so that will help him, so yeah Derby for me would be a great shout.

"Him staying at Leeds this season hasn’t worked out, we expected so much from him considering we saw him step in last season.”

The Verdict

I was expecting Clarke to play a much more prominent role for Leeds this campaign, so it does not come as a surprise to see that Tottenham are looking to send the winger somewhere he will receive more game time.

Bent is correct in that Derby and Fulham could both be excellent moves for the 19-year-old - even though Derby have not had a great first half of the season - and Clarke should definitely consider pushing for a switch to either of these clubs.

The winger has enough quality to play a key role for a Championship side at this stage of his career, and Spurs will surely be keen to see him achieve this before his return in the summer.
