Darren Bent believes that Martin Olsson would be a great signing for West Bromwich Albion, because of his experience as a player.

The 31-year-old is currently a free agent, after he was released by Championship side Swansea City in the summer. However, the Swedish left-back is reportedly close to signing for West Brom.

According to the Express & Star, Olsson has been offered the chance to train with the Baggies and should he impress while on trail, he will be offered a short-term deal at The Hawthorns.

Olsson has been without a club since he was released by Swansea last summer, but the full-back has plenty of experience in the Premier League and the Championship, having also played for Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa striker Darren Bent believes that Olsson would be a great signing for the Baggies, because of his experience.

Bent told Football Insider: “Really good signing, knows what it takes, you need players like that, it’s great having all these young players with all the energy in the world who work hard, but at the same time, you need experience.

“Olsson has always done well, wherever he has been, solid character and he’s good to have in the dressing room, so I think that will be a really good signing.”

The Verdict

I agree with Bent here - I think Olsson would be a good signing for West Brom, especially on a free transfer. He's a very good player and he's got plenty of experience in the Championship, so he should be able to make an impact straight away.

West Brom have already got a lot of options at left-back, but Kieran Gibbs has struggled with injuries so far this season and Nathan Ferguson's future at The Hawthorns is still uncertain, so bringing in Olsson would be a smart move.

He'll probably feel that he has a bit of a point to prove after he was released by Swansea, so if he does sign for the Baggies, he'll be determined to make an impression.
