Former England international Darren Bent believes that Leeds United may be able to bring in striker Eddie Nketiah to the club on a permanent basis if they win promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites sealed a season-long deal for the Arsenal striker on deadline day earlier this month and the 20-year-old has made a bright start to life at Elland Road, scoring twice in three appearances.

And, even though he is highly-rated at the Emirates Stadium, game time in the upcoming years is going to be tough given the talent that Unai Emery has in the final third.

Therefore, Bent told Football Insider that he wouldn't be surprised to see Nketiah end up in Yorkshire on a long-term basis if everything goes well.

"If he gets a certain amount of games, he will score goals. If he’s not going to get the opportunities at Arsenal, you never know (about a permanent move), if he impresses at Leeds and gets them up, you never know.

"It’s just about him taking his opportunity and scoring when he’s given the chance, which he’s done. For Bielsa, it’s a great headache to have, for the players, it keeps them on their toes, keeps them hungry.

"It’s great for him to get off the mark like I’ve said, he’s a goalscorer. People might question him, what else he does, his other play, but first and foremost he wants to score goals and get in the box."

The Verdict

I can't really see Arsenal selling Nketiah as he is a player they hold in a high regard and if he has a very impressive year with Leeds, they will look to integrate him in the squad.

He displayed his talent with the Gunners in pre-season and there's no doubt they will feel he has a future at the club moving forward.

But, even if doesn't happen next year, it is still an excellent short-term deal for Leeds and he has the potential to be a key player for Marcelo Bielsa this season.
