Lincoln City were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Premier League side Everton on Tuesday night, with the Toffees winning 4-2 at Sincil Bank.

Marco Silva named a strong team to face the Imps who have made a really impressive start to their League One campaign, with the likes of Moise Kean, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Lucas Digne starting from the off.

But Danny Cowley will be delighted with his side's gutsy, valiant performance against Silva's men, as they remarkably broke the deadlock after just 20 seconds through Harry Anderson.

The Toffees did fight back through a sensational Digne free-kick, and goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson, Alex Iwobi and Richarlison ensured that there would be no cup upset in Lincolnshire.

But it was Bruno Andrade who stole the headlines, scoring a tremendous volley to make the score 2-2 after Sigurdsson's spot-kick.

The ball dropped for the former QPR winger just outside of the box, and was met by a wonderfully-hit volley which rocketed into the top-left corner.

After the game, speaking on EFL on Quest, former Aston Villa and Derby striker Darren Bent hailed Andrade's wonder-strike, saying: "If we see a better goal in the cup this season, I can’t wait to see it because that is pure technique.

"Everything in that strike is unbelievable. If anyone else like Ronaldo had scored that, we’d be talking about for years to come."

The Imps will now be looking to get back to winning ways in the league, as they prepare to face Tranmere Rovers this Saturday.

The Verdict

I fully agree with Darren Bent here - it was an absolutely fantastic strike and it shows the ability and technique Andrade has in his locker.

Lincoln were excellent at times last night, and Cowley should be very pleased with his side's efforts against what was a very strong Everton side. I was surprised Silva played so many strong players against them.

The Imps don't have the greatest squad depth in the world, so maybe being knocked out of the cup could be a blessing in disguise going forward, as they should look to focus on the league.
