Darragh MacAnthony addresses Derby County transfer speculation

Published

on

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has emphatically dismissed the idea that Marcus Maddison and Ivan Toney could be on their way to Derby in the January transfer window.

Reports emerged in September suggesting the Rams were one of several Championship sides monitoring the pair, who have both been outstanding in League One this season.

And, one Posh fan asked MacAnthony if online rumours revealing the pair were getting shown around Derby’s training ground today ahead of a transfer in the New Year was true.

However, the owner made it clear with a strong response that it wasn’t the case.

Don’t be daft. Just rumour nonsense.”

Can Derby County make the top six?

No

No

Toney, along with fellow striker Mo Eisa, has scored 12 goals in League One already this season, making the duo the top scorers in the division whilst Maddison has weighed in with nine from his advanced midfield position. As a result, Darren Ferguson’s side are currently third in the table.

Whether Derby are on the lookout for new additions in the final third remains to be seen, with Wayne Rooney already one who will link up with Phillip Cocu’s side in January.

The verdict

MacAnthony must laugh when he sees all of these rumours online and it’s no surprise to see him dismiss this one.

You can’t imagine Peterborough will be open to selling in January considering their position but even if they did they would want an auction to play out as there will be a lot of interest in the pair.

So, there’s nothing in this, although you would expect serious bids to be lodged in the New Year as the pair have been superb.
