Dapo Afolayan shares seven-word message after Bolton Wanderers’ latest display

Bolton Wanderers winger Dapo Afolayan has taken to Instagram to share a message following his side’s latest display.

The Trotters managed to seal a 3-0 victory in their EFL Trophy clash with Rochdale yesterday as they outclassed their opponents at the Crown Oil Arena.

Bolton manager Ian Evatt decided to name a strong side for this fixture as the likes of Afolayan, Eoin Doyle and Josh Sheehan were selected to start.

Afolayan opened the scoring for Bolton in the 16th minute of the clash as he fired a stunning effort past goalkeeper Jay Lynch.

Declan John then doubled his side’s advantage as he netted his first goal of the season.

Doyle effectively ended Rochdale’s hopes of getting back into the game by scoring from the penalty spot after Afolayan was brought down in the area.

As a result of this triumph, Bolton booked their place in the next round of the competition.

The Trotters will now be looking to use the momentum gained from this result to push on in League One in the coming months.

Reflecting on his side’s latest display on Instagram, Afolayan admitted that he was happy that his side were able to end their wait for a victory.

The Verdict

When you consider that Bolton had gone five games without a win before this fixture, it was hardly a surprise that Evatt opted to turn to Afolayan for inspiration in this fixture.

A stand-out performer for the Trotters this season, the 24-year-old has now scored nine goals in all competitions for his side whilst he has also chipped in with two assists.

Currently averaging an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.44 in the third-tier, Afolayan will be determined to help his side push on in this division.

Set to face Crewe Alexandra in League One later this month, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Bolton end up securing a positive result in-front of their own supporters with Afolayan in their side.
