Danny Simpson has admitted he can't wait to get back playing football again after completing his move to Huddersfield Town on Friday afternoon.

The defender has signed for the Terriers on a one-year contract after impressing managerial duo Danny and Nicky Cowley during his time training with the club over the past two weeks.

Simpson arrives at the John Smith's Stadium with high pedigree having sealed Championship promotion with Sunderland, Newcastle and QPR earlier in his career, before winning the Premier League with Leicester City in the 2015/16 season.

The 32-year-old has been signed to add experience to the Huddersfield's ranks following a miserable start to the Championship season which has left them rock-bottom of the table and without a single victory.

However, Simpson appears optimistic and has posted a message on his Twitter account claiming he can't wait to play for Huddersfield, after a "long few months" without a club following his release from Leicester over the summer.

The Verdict

This is a solid signing for Huddersfield as Simpson will provide a dependable presence in defence at a time where they are in desperate need of some solidity.

Flo Hadergjonaj has not looked comfortable in the right-back berth in recent weeks, so Simpson's arrival at the club is timely as he will be able to slot in on the right side of defence with minimal fuss.

It also seems that Simpson is extremely eager to get going having spent so long trying to find a club following his release, and this can only bode well for Huddersfield as they may well see the best of him once he regains full match fitness.

I think this certainly a step in the right direction for Huddersfield's survival efforts, as Simpson should bring plenty of experience and Championship know-how to a side very much in need of it.
