It's fair to say that Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is under pressure at the moment, after another costly error in their last match.

The Spaniard was beaten at his near post by Nottingham Forest's Sammy Ameobi on Saturday, as the Reds ran out 2-0 winners at the City Ground.

The result meant that the promotion-chasing pack are now closing in on Marcelo Bielsa's side, and they'll nervously be looking over their shoulders as the season progresses.

There have been calls from some sections of the Elland Road faithful for Bielsa to drop Casilla from the starting XI, which could soon be a reality, after Illan Meslier wasn't named in the squad for the recent Leeds United under 23's game against Bolton Wanderers.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds defender Danny Mills issued his thoughts on the recent criticism of Casilla.

"Let’s not go overboard on Kiko Casilla. He has done well, but he has made mistakes, as all goalkeepers have.

"It’s just apparent at the moment that they tie in, or seem to tie in, with this run that Leeds are absolutely desperate to get out of.

"Yes, it’s disappointing, but I don’t think we should go too far overboard and start slamming Kiko Casilla."

Leeds are next in action when they take on promotion rivals Brentford at Griffin Park on Tuesday evening, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The Verdict:

I think Leeds fans have every right to criticise Casilla for his recent performances.

He's not been good enough, and I don't think he fills the Elland Road faithful with much confidence between the posts. He could definitely have dealt with Nottingham Forest's opener better at the weekend, and you have to imagine that his starting spot will surely be under threat in the near future.

Bielsa can't afford to keep picking players that aren't performing to a high standard, and unfortunately for Casilla, he falls into that category at this moment in time.

He might benefit from being taken out of the firing line for a few games to recapture his best form for the promotion-chasing Whites.
