There are multiple clubs interested in West Brom's Matt Phillips and his loss would be a big setback for the club, according to Danny Mills.

Aston Villa, Brighton, and Sheffield United are all rumoured to be interested, so he could be the third key player to leave the Hawthorns this season after Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez - as he only has a year left on his contract.

That prospect is a worry for Mills, who said to Football Insider: "It would be a huge blow for them to lose another forward player. You start to wonder where their goals are going to come from.

"It gives them a problem, doesn’t it? Yes, you have to balance the books but equally, you’ve got to be able to challenge in the Championship to try and get that promotion and that’s difficult."

It is a surprise admission from the ex-England player, as he believes Phillips hasn't lived up to his high standards whilst at The Baggies, suggesting he hasn't "developed as maybe some expected".

In 30 Championship appearances last season he contributed with a combined total of 11 goals and assists, which shows how effective he can be at this level, and why he would be missed by Slaven Bilic.

The Verdict

Mills makes a very good point when he questions West Brom's goalscoring threat. If Phillips leaves The Baggies will have lost their top three goalscorer's from last season after Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle left the club, and that is a big concern for promotion.

In response, the club has brought in only one striker - Kenneth Zohore - who is not known for his goalscoring abilities, and whilst the arrivals of midfielders Filip Krovinovic and Romaine Sawyers are positive, they are not going to score goals.

There is little time remaining in the window, too, and therefore it would be a bold decision for the club to sell yet another asset, particularly as Bilic is after a few more additions.
