Danny Mills says Leeds United should look to sign Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson on loan next season in order to win promotion to the Premier League.

Wilson enjoyed an outstanding campaign on loan at Derby last season, scoring 16 goals and assisting four more as The Rams reached the Championship play-off final, where they were ultimately beaten by Aston Villa.

Football Insider have reported that Liverpool have placed a £4 million loan fee on Wilson, and speaking to the same outlet about Leeds' chances for next season, Mills suggested that a loan move for Wilson is something the Elland Road side should consider, claiming: “Leeds were third in the league, they were not far off automatic promotion, they can go one step further by spending £10million and bringing three quality players in.

“If there is no money to spend, they could sell Jack Clarke for £12million and use the proceeds to bring in Harry Wilson on loan and a couple of others.

“They could get Wilson for £4million for the season if Liverpool don’t want to sell him, and he is someone proven in the Championship who will get you goals, take brilliant set pieces and create chances.”

Securing Wilson's services may be difficult for Leeds, however, with The Sun previously reporting that the midfielder believes his performances for Derby this season have done enough to justify him a place at a top tier side for next season, and that the midfielder could leave Anfield permanently to make that happen.

The Verdict

I think Mills is right here.

There were times towards the end of the season, when Leeds ultimately failed to get over the line for automatic promotion, that they lacked the spark they needed to turn games in their favour.

Wilson showed during his time at Derby that he has the ability to do exactly that, which could make him key to Leeds' hopes of ending the wait for a return to the Premier League next season, should he make the move to Elland Road.
