Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has admitted that he is ‘worried’ about the club’s chances of automatic promotion this season, after speaking on Sky Sports News (22nd April, 10:56am).
The Whites’ bid for automatic promotion to the Premier League took a major blow at the weekend, where they fell to a hugely disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Wigan Athletic, who played with one less man for more than 70 minutes.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men slipped out of the automatic promotion spots at the expense of Sheffield United, who defeated Nottingham Forest by two goals to nil at Bramall Lane.
With just three games left to play this season, Leeds now find themselves outside of the top two on goal difference, and ahead of their trip to Brentford on Monday, Mills admitted that he is now worried about the Whites’ chances of automatic promotion.
He said: “I am just a little bit worried now that they might have missed that opportunity. The loss on Friday was enormous.”
It is shaping up to be a hugely eventful end to the season for both Leeds and Sheffield United, who have been at loggerheads all season.
Bielsa’s men travel to Brentford later on today, before hosting Aston Villa at Elland Road next weekend.
I’m going to have to agree with Mills on this one, I just cannot see Sheffield United slipping up now.
To lose in that manner to a 10-man Wigan side was simply extraordinary, and would have been gut-wrenching for the Elland Road faithful.
Can you see them going to Brentford and getting all three points? It’ll be a tough ask to say the least.
