Jack Clarke looks set to join Tottenham for £8m, prompting Danny Mills to urge the club to not accept such a lowly offer, as per Football Insider.

The former Leeds player previously backed the club for requesting an asking price of £20m for the 18-year-old, so it is unsurprising that he  is stunned that the transfer could be completed for such a low sum.

Add-ons would take the total price of the transfer to a higher number, but Mills is doubtful that Clarke will play enough for such clauses to be enacted, given his age and the overall quality of the Spurs squad.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said: “At the level of £8million, I think Leeds should keep him,” Mills said. “You can’t really reinvest that amount significantly to strengthen your squad.

“Leeds would be better off keeping a player who would play 25 to 30 games next season, may help them get promotion and, if he does well, he could be worth £25 to £30million in a year’s time."

Clarke only broke into the Leeds squad last season, but he made an impression with his talent, and next year could be big for both him and the club if he stays at Elland Road.

He made 24 appearances in the Championship last season. Of those just four were starts yet he still managed to grab two goals and two assists.

The Verdict

Mills has a fair point. £8m seems like peanuts for a player of Clarke's quality, and with an offer that low the club would be better off keeping him and giving him a role to play next season.

He is bound to do well under Bielsa next year. Leeds are a team high on confidence and they know how to win matches. Clarke will be a part of that and he will be allowed to express himself in a way that benefits his development and the team.

With a price tag of £20m previously speculated the club should be trying to get an offer closer to that. Clarke will be worth a lot more than £20m in a few years and it would be a shame if Leeds undervalued themselves and sold him for cheap.
