Ex England international Danny Mills has described Nottingham Forest midfielder Joe Lolley's performance in his side's 2-0 win over Leeds United as "incredible".

Goals from Sammy Ameobi and Tyler Walker secured all three points for Sabri Lamouchi's side, but it was Lolley who really seemed to stand out for the victors.

The midfielder provided one assist - dispossessing Jack Harrison before putting it on a plate for Walker to tap home his side's second - and could have already had another by that point, after Lolley had played in Lewis Grabban, who fired straight at Leeds 'keeper Kiko Casilla with the rest of the goal gaping.

Speaking after the game, Mills was clearly impressed with the contribution made by Lolley on Saturday, with the former Leeds defender telling Football Insider: “He played incredible, incredibly well.

“How Lewis Grabban didn’t score when he was clean through, I do not know. That was just incredible. No idea.

“It was harder to do that than it was the other way round. It was great play from Lolley and all he needed to do was roll it into an empty net.”

Following that win over Leeds, Forest remain fourth in the Championship table, but are now just one point behind Marcelo Bielsa's side in the second automatic promotion place.

That assist for Walker was Lolley's sixth of the season, with the 27-year-old having already scored seven goals of his own during the current Championship campaign.

The Verdict

What a performance this was from Lolley.

The 27-year-old was a constant threat on Saturday, and the plaudits he is receiving for that contribution certainly look to be well deserved.

Following what had appeared to be a slow start to the campaign for Forest's Player of the Year last season, it certainly seems as though Lolley is now getting back to his best with his recent showings.

With Forest now well in the hunt for automatic promotion, it looks as though that return to top form for Lolley has come at the perfect time, both for the club and the player.
