Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has criticised the club after it was reported that eight first-team players had been training together at Thorp Arch.

As we all know, the Coronavirus crisis has stopped football for the past month, with the government issuing strict orders to the public in terms of social distancing.

Therefore, players have not been in training, instead keeping fit at home. However, Football Insider claimed that the Championship leaders had gone against those guidelines with several senior players turning up in the past few days.

And, speaking to the same outlet, Mills made it clear that Leeds should have been acting more responsibly.

"You are disobeying advice. You do not know where people are coming from or going to. Whoever is taking the training is dealing with a number of people across the week. I think it is premature to be doing this.

"If players live together and they go out training it is fine but bringing them into the club I do not think it is a good idea. It is not the right message to the public."

Reports have since emerged stating that the Whites still followed public guidelines despite having many of the first-team squad at the training ground.

The verdict

You can understand where Mills is coming from as clubs have a responsibility to set the right standard and this isn't doing that.

Having said that, Leeds have been great in this crisis, from the players agreeing deferrals and the way they have helped out the community.

With training set to resume next month, the players need to continue to work from home and step things up when this situation eases.
