Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has claimed that the current suspension of football across the country could help the club with regards to the fitness of midfielder Adam Forshaw and attacker Jean-Kevin Augustin.

Forshaw hasn't played for Leeds since September due to a hip injury, which had been expected to keep him out of action for the rest of the season, while Augustin has made just three substitute appearances for Leeds since his loan move from Leipzig in the January transfer window, having struggled for match fitness.

But with the date at which the season will eventually resume now far from certain, Mills seems to believe that the duo could yet have a big part to play before the end of the campaign.

Speaking to Football Insider about whether Forshaw should come back into Marcelo Bielsa's side before the season ends if he is able to do so, Mills said: "If he is available I expect him to come back in.

“Some players will pick up little niggles because they have not played for a while and there will be a chance for players who are coming back from long-term injury.

“With injuries, you win some you lose some. This break could turn out to be a win for Leeds with Forshaw and Augustin currently injured.

"Some clubs will have players back fit and available and others will feel aggrieved because they have lost momentum. But everybody is in the same boat. It is now how you deal with it mentally."

Leeds are currently top of the Championship table, seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with nine games of the season still to be played at some point.

The Verdict

This could certainly benefit Leeds if it were to be the case that Forshaw and Augustin could get themselves back fit for the conclusion of the season.

Given it looks as though the end of the campaign could be played out with a significant number of games in a small period of time, Leeds will surely need as many players as possible ready and willing to contribute in order to help them cope with the physical demands of that.

As a result, getting both Forshaw and Augustin available again would be a useful boost for them, particularly considering the influence Forshaw appeared to have on the side during the early part of the campaign.
