Former Leeds United and England defender Danny Mills has claimed that manager Marcelo Bielsa doesn't yet trust striker Eddie Nketiah.

The young striker was once again in fine goalscoring form this weekend as he bagged for the England under-21's. However, Mills is unsure on if Leeds boss Bielsa has faith in Nketiah to deliver on a regular basis, with the Leeds manager yet to start the Arsenal man in the Championship.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said:

“It’s an interesting one, clearly it’s something that Bielsa doesn’t quite see in training, playing international football is different, it’s not the same as playing league football and certainly Championship football.

“You have to trust Marcelo Bielsa and say what is he not seeing in training? What is not happening for him to not be put in the starting line up. There’s just something that isn’t right. Bielsa clearly doesn’t trust him yet.”

The comments from Mills will no doubt get Leeds fans talking, with plenty of Whites supporters clamouring for Nketiah to be given a regular start over Patrick Bamford this term.

However, Bamford seems to have cemented himself as the main man under Bielsa, and thanks to his work-rate and contribution to the team effort, Nketiah has found himself coming off the bench rather than getting starts.

Nketiah has scored in the Championship, while he has also bagged on the occasions he has started games in the League Cup.

The Verdict

Interesting take this from Mills and one what you can definitely see the point of.

Nketiah is undoubtedly a top young talent who knows where the net is. However, on that same note, Bielsa is an experienced coach who knows what he wants and needs from his players.

The Arsenal man will get his chance at some point, but Bamford is playing well, so he's simply going to have to be patient.
