Former Leeds United and England defender Danny Mills has claimed that the club have a superb chance of signing Wolves winger Helder Costa this summer, because of Marcelo Bielsa.

Bielsa has moved to sign a new deal with the Whites meaning he is in charge for the forthcoming campaign, and former right-back Mills believes this could be the reason why Leeds will end up landing Wolves man Costa in a loan deal next term.

“I think Leeds have a good chance of signing him,” Mills told Football Insider.

“I can see Wolves loaning him as I expect them to invest this summer and bring in new players. If he sees himself slipping down the Wolves pecking order he is likely to think he needs more regular football and a move. He is on the fringes.. If Wolves bring in an attacking player or two and strengthen, that could make up his mind."

Leeds have been linked with a move for the winger in recent days as Bielsa presses ahead with plans to improve his squad following their failed effort at promotion last season, and Mills is confident that the Bielsa effect will continue to benefit the Whites.

“A big attraction for Premier League players joining Leeds is Bielsa. That’s what Costa will be looking at, thinking he wants to play for Bielsa. He will want to play week in, week out as well, so you could see this happening.” Mills added.

Costa is one of a host of players to be linked with a move to Elland Road this summer as own Andrea Radrizzani looks to back Bielsa and give him all the tools necessary to fire the Yorkshire giants back into the top flight.

Portuguese winger Costa played a huge part for Wolves as they romped to Championship success two seasons ago but has seen his chances limited in the Premier League as Wolves continue to invest and improve under manager Nuno Santo.

The Verdict

It might seem obvious, but Mills is spot on really, players do want to play for Bielsa.

There is no doubt he is a huge draw, and given the size of Leeds anyway in terms of the club, they are a hugely attractive package overall.

Costa would be brilliant for them too, and if he does sign, Leeds could well have the missing piece to the puzzle.
