Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley has praised striker Karlan Grant for silencing his Charlton Athletic critics following his two goals against his former side on Saturday afternoon.

Grant has been Huddersfield's top goalscorer during their Championship survival bid this term, and the forward added to his 14-goal tally as he netted a further two strikes during his side's 4-0 mauling of Charlton at the John Smith's Stadium.

The result means the Terriers are now five points clear of the relegation zone following two key victories this week, and Grant was integral to both these successes as he scored a penalty during the 2-1 win over Bristol City before his exploits on Saturday.

The 22-year-old joined Huddersfield from Charlton in January 2019 after impressing for the Addicks in League One, and Grant received some criticism from the Charlton fanbase in the form of jeers when he made his return to The Valley earlier this term.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Cowley has now heaped praise on Grant for responding to this criticism in style, with the Terriers boss also crediting the forward for re-discovering his goalscoring form after being rushed back from his injury recently.

"He got a bit of stick at Charlton which I thought was unfair as he came through the academy and Charlton Athletic supporters should be proud of him," Cowley said.
"To get the criticism he did personally, I thought it was unfair. "He was excellent. The thing with Karlan is that he has come off the back of an injury and we had to rush him back last Saturday because of Fraizer's (Campbell's) illness. But he always finishes games and is always able to do ninety minutes."

The Verdict

Grant would have been delighted to find the net twice against his former club on Saturday following the boos he received earlier this season, but he will mainly be delighted with the fact his goals helped Huddersfield seal an important victory.

Charlton would have viewed their trip to the John Smith's Stadium as the perfect chance to make progress in their relegation bid, but the nature of their defeat will now leave many of their supporters concerned about a potential relegation this season.

On the other hand, Huddersfield's two victories this week has suddenly made the relegation picture appear much more favourable for them, but they must now follow up these back-to-back wins with a positive display against Leeds next weekend.
