Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley says midfielder Trevoh Chalobah will learn from his sending off in their 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Tuesday night.

The on-loan Chelsea man was sent off with just five minutes of normal time remaining in the match, after moving his head towards that of Swansea midfielder George Byers following a challenge between the two.

That dismissal was the first of the 20-year-old's career, and speaking about the sending off after the game, Cowley was quoted by The Examiner as saying: "I thought up until that point, he was outstanding and it was probably his best performance in a Huddersfield Town shirt.

"I haven't seen it back, but what it looked like was that it was a sending-off. He is a young player and he will learn from this experience.

"He is a clever and a bright kid and not only will he learn from it, he will ensure that he does not make the same mistake again."

Discussing the overall performance of Australian referee Jarred Gillett, it seems Cowley was not overly impressed with the man in the middle, as the Terriers boss continued: "I think he found it difficult, although I did not think it had any outcome on the game. I thought he was indifferent for both teams, if I am honest.

"He has just come over from the A-league in Australia and the intensity of the A-league compared to the Championship is significantly different."

Earlier in the game, Karlan Grant's tenth goal of the season for Huddersfield had cancelled out Swansea midfielder Jay Fulton's opener, meaning the Terriers are now unbeaten in their last six home games this season, leaving them 19th in the Championship standings.

The Verdict

This will be frustrating for Cowley and Huddersfield.

While it ultimately did not cost them on the night against Swansea, the Terriers now face the prospect of having to cope without Chalobah due to suspension following his dismissal.

When you consider the quality of some of his performances so far this season, that is something that looks like it could be a big miss for Huddersfield.

Even so, this experience is something that Chalobah will now look to build on going forward in his career, which is likely to be part of the reason that Chelsea sent him here on loan in the first place.
