Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has revealed that the club are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this month, following the bad injury to Kamil Grabara.

Grabara was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary on Tuesday night after he collided with Christopher Schindler and had to be stretchered off after a lengthy delay. The Terriers struck a late goal in the 15 minutes of injury time to seal a 2-1 win over Hull City but have suffered a huge blow with the layoff for Grabara.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Fulham, Danny Cowley confirmed the injury setback for Grabara. He stated this to the club’s official website: “Kamil Grabara has been discharged from hospital, which is good news.

“He’s much better in himself.

“We anticipate, best case scenario, 28 days. He will see a neurosurgeon, which will give us the length of his injury.”

So, with Grabara set to miss at least a month of action for the Terriers, they are left with just Ryan Schofield as a senior ‘keeper that Cowley has to select from. He revealed that the club are working hard to bring in another ‘keeper before tomorrow’s deadline to ensure they have adequate cover while the Liverpool loanee recovers from the injury. On the current situation, Cowley added: “Ryan Schofield is a young goalkeeper and someone we have high hopes for.

“He has a really good loan at SPL level.

“We are looking at getting another ‘keeper in.

“We worked hard yesterday and today to make that happen.”

Cowley’s comments would indicate that the Terriers are closing in on this signing and it could be done as early as tonight after the ‘hard work’ that he is alluding to.

Do you know where these former Terriers are playing now?

The verdict

The injury to Grabara was horrible and it is great news to know that he is out of the hospital as expected, but it does leave Cowley very light in goal.

The Terriers will need to bring someone in before tomorrow’s deadline to help keep their backline intact ahead of a push for survival in the back end of the season.

Huddersfield had two very positive results in the last two games, taking four points from games against Brentford and Hull, which they cannot let go to waste by not getting a ‘keeper in.

Even if this new ‘keeper comes in just to plug the gap left by Grabara’s absence, it is a deal well worth doing, as they cannot afford to go a month without a first-choice stopper playing for them, regardless of how well Ryan Schofield has come on during his loan spell.
