Danny Cowley has admitted he's playing the waiting game as he looks to add to his Lincoln City squad in the transfer window, as reported by Lincolnshire Live.

The Imps opened their League One account with a win against Accrington Stanley this weekend, but Cowley could only name six substitutes with his side struggling with injuries.

In addition to Tom Pett and Lee Frecklington's injuries, Jason Shackell is suspended for two more matches, Michael Bostwick and Michael O'Connor have had a restricted pre-season and Cian Bolger picked up a bug which kept him up all night before the game.

Cowley knows his side need some fresh faces, but admitted he's waiting for today's Championship deadline to pass by before he knows how he can progress.

“Until that first window shuts, we won’t be able to do anything, then we’ll see," said the former Concord Rangers manager.

“We’re a good team, but we’re so light in terms of numbers. We can only work with what we’ve got. We’ll get what we’ve got as fit, resilient and as well organised as we possibly can. We’ll see where that takes us.”

The Imps face a trip to recently-relegated Rotherham this weekend, before an EFL Cup date with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

The Verdict

The Imps certainly need additions, but only to flesh out what is already a talented squad. They looked competent and fluid in their opening fixture, but need to ensure that the inevitable injuries and suspensions don't have a hugely detrimental effect.

The Imps play Saturday / Tuesday right the way through August now and Cowley will want to ensure he gets players in sooner, rather than later.

The fact he's waiting on today's deadline to pass suggests he's eyeing Championship talent currently out of the first-team picture.
