Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley has told The News that Harry Jewitt-White's performances on loan at Havant & Waterlooville this season will determine whether he has a future with his parent club or not.

The promising central midfielder is on loan at Westleigh Park until the end of the season and has been challenged to show that he is worthy of fresh terms at Fratton Park in the long run.

A Wales youth international, Jewitt-White is out of contract come the end of the current season despite being seen as someone that is very highly regarded within Pompey's youth set up.

Speaking about the midfielder's future on the South Coast recently, Cowley was quick to state the following:

"Absolutely this will help decide whether he has a Pompey future. It's going to be really interesting to see how he progresses, we are definitely open-minded."

The youngster made his National League South debut the other day for the Hawks as he came on for 11 minutes against Billericay.

Aged just 17, Jewitt-White has made five first team appearances for Pompey so far.

The Verdict

This is a good loan move for the teenager and now he has to show just why he is worthy of a fresh contract moving forwards at Fratton Park.

He is now plying his trade in a league that will test him physically as well as tactically as he comes up against some strong opponents that will offer different challenges to what he will have grown used to in youth football.

If he rises to it well, Cowley is the type of manager to give him a chance in the long run.

Therefore it is important that he makes the most of the loan spell away from his parent side in order to showcase the undoubted ability that he has in the best light possible.
