Huddersfield Town's newly appointed manager, Danny Cowley, has stated that the job at the Terriers is the 'perfect opportunity'.

The duo, Danny and brother Nicky, took over at the Yorkshire club on Monday afternoon having left League One side, Lincoln City.

They take over a club who were in the Premier League just last season but the Terriers relegation meant that they dropped down a division and now, after just six games of the Championship season, sit second from bottom with one point.

Huddersfield are yet to taste victory in the current campaign and sacked manager Jan Siewert after just three games of the season. Mark Hudson took over as caretaker boss, but he lost all three games that he was in charge for.

It's a big moment for Cowley who has never managed in the Championship, but it's one that he's relishing.

Speaking in his first press conference, Cowley said: “You look at Huddersfield Town, the history of the Club, yes it’s been a difficult period but that excites me.

“We see this as the perfect opportunity.”

The Terriers take on Garry Monk's Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, in what is a first managerial match at their respective sides for both sets of managers.

The Verdict

If you're a Lincoln City supporter, obviously you're going to be upset but you can't fault Cowley for leaving in what is a massive step up for the manager.

Leaving to a side that has recently been in the Premier League and have a certain number of players in the squad that are proven in this division, make it a job that he can't possibly turn down.

Like he said, it is a perfect opportunity and one that he has to take with open arms. It'll be interesting to see how he goes about getting the confidence of a very much depleted Huddersfield side up ahead of a first test against Garry Monk's Sheffield Wednesday side.
