Huddersfield began life under the Cowley brothers in defeat at the hands of Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday but there's a lot to learn for the new boss.

Having not been at the club long and given a baptism of fire with a first game at home to Sheffield Wednesday it was never going to be an easy start for Cowley.

Speaking to the media post-match, Cowley called on character in order for his players to turn around the clubs current fortunes: "the only way we're going to get out of this is with some resilience and some grit."

Without being too downhearted Cowley was happy with parts of the performance but it is difficult to get away from the harsh realities of an unforgiving Championship season and he is already learning about just that.

With clear aims Cowley added: "we want to play with heart, spirit and fight" but he admitted that he and his staff need to re-build players confidence and belief to get the squad functioning to his wishes.

Huddersfield have a had a torrid start to life back in the Championship, Cowley has every confidence he can get the club out of their current predicament but concedes "I wish I had a magic wand but I don't.

"But what I do have is a relentless work ethic."

The Verdict

Although a tough start to life at Town there are positive signs, a young hungry manager at the helm with some time and support could really change Huddersfield's fortunes.

A trip to West Brom next Sunday is another tough game but there is no hiding in this division.
