Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley has issued fitness updates on struggling duo Fraizer Campbell and Alex Pritchard ahead of the visit of Bristol City.

The Terriers have been extremely unfortunate with injuries this season as they toil with players plugging different gaps each week and signings needed to be brought in to cover for lengthy layoffs to key players.

With Alex Pritchard struggling since the start of the season with injury and constant setbacks, Cowley moved to sign Emile Smith-Rowe on loan from Arsenal and to decent effect too.

Fraizer Campbell’s problems have seen Steve Mounie come in to become the club’s main striker at the moment while Karlan Grant continues out wide, with Mounie netting a handful of goals in that time; four goals in his last six appearances have taken him to seven for the season.

Pritchard and Campbell are both on the road to recovery at the John Smith’s Stadium and Cowley is hoping that the pair will be back to full fitness before long.

Cowley today spoke to the club’s official website ahead of Bristol City’s trip to West Yorkshire on Tuesday night and provided an update on the pair. He stated (on Campbell): “Fraizer is feeling better than he did, which is a positive.

“We will have to wait and see how he is tomorrow night.”

On Pritchard, he added this: “We are trying to build Alex’s fitness.

“It’s about us getting the pathway right to have him available for a sustained period of time.”

The weekend was the first time that Pritchard was on the bench for the Terriers since the last time they played tomorrow’s opponents, as he was an unused substitute in the 5-2 defeat. Meanwhile, Campbell has only missed the last game and could be assessed late ahead of a recall to the squad.

Do you know where these former Terriers are playing now?

The verdict

Mixed news for the pair as they look to make their way back into the lineup for the run-in, with Pritchard finally looking like getting some minutes in the near future.

Pritchard’s career has been hampered by injuries but there is clearly a very talented player there that can still have an impact at the John Smith’s before the season ends.

Campbell’s work up front often went unnoticed and allowed for Grant to keep up his great form in front of goal, which hasn’t been helped by Campbell’s absence.

The pair probably won’t be fit to have much of an impact when they face Bristol tomorrow night but it’s positive that they are edging closer.
