Former Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley was critical of the Terriers defensive display as they were beaten 4-3 by Stoke City on Saturday.

The ex-Lincoln chief was tasked with keeping the Yorkshire outfit in the Championship after arriving midway through last season, and he succeeded in doing just that.

So, it was a huge surprise when he was sacked earlier in the year, with the club turning to Carlos Corberan as they looked for a different way of playing.

In fairness, it's a decision that has worked quite well, as they are 16th in the Championship and have played some stylish football.

They haven't always convinced in defence though, and that was the case against the Potters, as they lost a goal when playing out from the back. And, speaking to EFL on Quest, Cowley gave an honest assessment of how the game went for his old club.

"I think Huddersfield's performance was erratic, with some good moments going forward, but they'll be disappointed defensively."

Corberan's side are back in action tomorrow as they take on struggling Wycombe.

The verdict

You can't really argue with what Cowley has said here, as he was asked to assess the game and that's a fair comment.

The goals they gave away were really sloppy and Corberan will have been livid with some of the individual errors that cost the side.

However, going forward they are a big threat and fans will be excited to see how they can improve under the Spaniard as the campaign progresses.
