Danny Cowley has claimed that Huddersfield Town have signed the "most exciting young attacking player in English football," following the arrival of Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal.

Smith Rowe joined the Terriers on loan until the end of the season 12 days ago from the Gunners, and made his debut in the 0-0 draw against Brentford last weekend.

The 19-year-old created Town's best chance of their game with Brentford with a 50th minute cross, only for top scorer Karlan Grant to fire his shot over the bar.

Smith Rowe lasted 81 minutes of his debut before being substituted by Cowley and looks set to play a part in Town's next game away to Hull City on Tuesday.

Speaking on acquiring Smith Rowe, Danny Cowley told the Huddersfield Examiner that: "We wanted to bring in some enthusiasm and energy and quality at the top end of the pitch and being able to bring in Emile Smith Rowe - for us, we see him as the most exciting young attacking player in English football.

"He has played quite a lot of football - a lot of 23s football - and a good number of first-team games for Arsenal as well," Cowley continued. "So we are really pleased to be able to bring him in - I have to say we are thankful to Arsenal."

Smith Rowe has made six first team appearances for the Gunners so far this season, featuring in the Premier League, Europa League and EFL Cup for the Premier League side.

The 19-year-old will be hoping that his loan spell at Town will allow him more experience of senior football whilst also continuing to impress for the England under-20s team.

The Verdict

Smith Rowe is certainly an upcoming and exciting prospect and his six appearances for Arsenal this term clearly show how highly regarded he is at the Emirates.

Danny Cowley is right to be delighted with this signing, with the 19-year-old arguably being a good signing for any side in the Championship this term.

The Town boss must be cautious however in not heaping too much pressure on the youngster too soon, if he wants the player to build on his impressive second half against Brentford.

It is easy to envisage Smith Rowe playing a consistent role for Town over the next 18 games, and should also benefit from working with Town's more experienced signings in Richard Stearman and Andy King.
