Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien has scooped up his club’s Player of the Month award for the second successive month, heaping praise on manager Danny Cowley.

Lewis O’Brien’s tireless work and energy in midfield has been recognised by the club’s ‘Blue and White Foundation’ as they voted him their Player of the Month for October, having previously won the award for September too.

O’Brien’s strong performances come in the middle of a tremendous run of form for the Terriers where they are currently on a six-game unbeaten run since their 4-2 defeat to West Brom back in September.

O’Brien had stiff competition for the award as one would imagine, with the other candidates for the accolade being fellow midfielder Juninho Bacuna and red-hot striker Karlan Grant. The pair that missed out on the prize have also been instrumental in Huddersfield’s resurgence and rise out of the relegation zone, with their impact mainly coming in the opposition penalty area. Bacuna and Grant scored six goals between them in a month that saw Huddersfield earn 11 points out of a possible 15.

When accepting his award, O’Brien was effusive in his praise of the new manager Danny Cowley. Speaking to the club’s official site, the midfielder had this to say: “I think since they’ve come in, I’ve improved every aspect of my game massively and I think they’ve improved every player since they’ve come in no matter what age they are.

“We’ve all been improving, and it just shows how good-a managers they are.

"We get league tables on the matches that we do in training, passing drills, and it makes you want to be in the top 11 because if you’re not in the 11 you don’t know where you are.

“It gives you that emphasis to be better in training the next day.”

The Verdict

It is clear to see that Danny and Nicky Cowley are having a huge impact at the John Smith’s Stadium already and Lewis O’Brien is a prime example of that. He has relished in the role he’s been given for Huddersfield and only being 21-years-old means that he will only improve as the squad do.

O’Brien and Huddersfield will be looking to continue their unbeaten run when they clash with another in-form side in Brentford at Griffin Park. O’Brien’s energy in midfield will be crucial for the Terriers.
