Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has revealed that midfielder Juninho Bacuna is continuing to play for the club despite injury, as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship this season.

Bacuna has made a total of 36 appearances in all competitions for the Terriers this season, scoring six goals in that time for Cowley's side, who find themselves 18th in the current second-tier standings, three points clear of the relegation zone.

The 22-year-old has however made his last three appearances from the substitutes bench, and it seems the reason for that is now becoming clearer.

Speaking about the current situation surrounding Bacuna's fitness, Cowley told The Examiner: "Bacca has had compartment syndrome, affecting his shins. It's like a pressure which has been an issue to him and he hasn't quite been able to train freely."

Despite that problem, Bacuna has remained an important part of Huddersfield's side in recent weeks, and Cowley appears to be understandably grateful to the midfielder for that, as he continued: "Credit to him, he wants to contribute. He could now have some time away but he doesn't want to do that and we don't want him to do that because it's such an important part of the season.

"Hopefully we can try and manage him through and manage his minutes accordingly."

Next up for Cowley, Bacuna and co. is a huge game in the Championship relegation battle, as they host 20th-placed Wigan Athletic - who are just one point behind them - at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

Full credit to Bacuna here.

It certainly seems as though he is playing through some significant pain here, highlighting his dedication and commitment to the Huddersfield cause at such a difficult time this season.

When you look at his contributions so far in the campaign, the fact that he is doing that ought to be a big relief for the Terriers, given the importance he appears to have to their hopes of survival in the Championship.

As a result, you feel this latest revelation from Cowley will only serve to make Bacuna even more popular with Huddersfield's fans going forward, particularly if they do manage to stay up this season.
