Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has provided an encouraging update on the fitness of his recovering players ahead of the weekend’s game.

Danny Cowley has given a positive update on the fitness of defender Terence Kongolo, along with the state of the sickness bug that had been making its way through the squad recently and kept a few players out of action.

Kongolo has not featured for the Terriers since their 4-2 defeat against West Brom. Since then, the side has gone on a six-game unbeaten run without him and moved out of the relegation zone, picking up 12 points in the process. Huddersfield would be grateful to have the player back who has undoubted quality at this level and higher, though.

Cowley indicated that he is close to a return in his press conference, when he said: “Terence Kongolo is on the grass.

“We’ve had to be cautious with him, but he’s fighting for a place in the team.”

Along with the update on Kongolo, Cowley also commented on the sickness bug that had been going around the camp recently and kept goalkeeper Kamil Grabara out of the 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough last week.

Cowley had this add: “We haven’t had anymore sickness, which is a positive.

“We are fighting fit!”

Cowley’s comments are indicating that he is nearing a fully fit squad with the returning Kongolo and the lingering sickness bug seemingly making its way out of the club.

The Verdict

Huddersfield appear to be operating in a bubble of positivity at the moment under Cowley following a six-match unbeaten run, and the return to fitness of the squad is more good news for the club.

The Terriers face a stern test on Saturday when they make the trip to Griffin Park to face a Brentford side who are on a good run of their own.

Going into the winter months, Cowley will be hoping to have as much of his squad to pick from as possible.
