Danny Cowley has given an injury update on his Huddersfield side as they prepare for a crucial clash against Stoke City.

The boss is hoping to welcome back key players Alex Pritchard and Terence Kongolo to the side as they recover from injury.

Pritchard hasn't played a minute under the new manager after picking up a knee injury whilst Kongolo picked up a calf injury during the defeat to West Brom meaning that he missed Saturday's 1-1 draw with Millwall.

Cowley has stated that they should return soon, whilst the other youngsters in the squad may be due a rest despite the help from the experienced pros.

Speaking to the Examiner Live, Cowley said this on Pritchard and Kongolo's injuries: "We would hope that both of them will be back very, very soon.

"That's what we are hopeful for. They are key players.

"You have to remember we have Kamil (Grabara) who is a young goalkeeper, Jaden Brown who is new to senior football and Lewis O'Brien who is just covering every blade of grass.

"He pretty much played like two players for 60-odd minutes until he ran out of legs.

"So we have quite a lot of young players in the group, and the experienced players are helping them - and are in a much better place to help them."

The Verdict

Huddersfield need their best players back and as quick as possible. It'll be interesting to see how Pritchard will be able to play under a new boss in charge at the Terriers.

It's been a long wait for a victory and the game against Stoke is mightily important in terms of getting those three points especially with both sides sitting at the bottom of the Championship table.

They need their best players back and in Pritchard and Kongolo that's two players who, when on form, can hurt any opposition side - especially in this division. The former Norwich midfielder has shown in the past that he can do it at this level, so he'll be hoping that he can replicate that sort of form with the Terriers.

There will be a lot of people waiting to find out the score for their game in midweek as people look to see which of the two bottom sides can get their winless run.
