Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has revealed that they are stepping up the recovery process of goalkeeper Kamil Grabara but are taking it slowly as is the case with concussion protocol.

The Terriers have been reliant on the on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper this season for some important saves but were dealt a blow to their hopes to push away from the relegation zone when he sustained a head injury in the Hull City clash last month.

Huddersfield made the trip to the KCOM Stadium on the 28th January and came away with all three points after Steve Mounie struck in the 96th-minute to seal a 2-1 win after there were 15 minutes added on following lengthy treatment for Grabara on the pitch before he was then taken to hospital for further examination following a hefty collision with Christopher Schindler.

Jonas Lossl had since signed on-loan to plug this alarming gap while Grabara sits out the necessary time that is associated with concussion injuries.

However, manager Danny Cowley has revealed that the keeper is edging closer to recovering from this setback. Speaking to the Examiner, Cowley commented on how the club are approaching the process to get him back in the Huddersfield squad. He stated: "Kamil has started his concussion protocol, so he has been back on the grass and will take it day by day.

"It is a daily thing, so he has to keep passing the next stage in that protocol.

"But it's been all good so far and, fingers crossed, the next stage will be about trying to get him a game before being available again for selection."

When asked whether he can now train fully with teammates and the club’s goalkeeping coach, Cowley added: "The protocol is day by day, so it starts off the grass and moves onto the grass (training pitch).

"He is back on the grass and involved in sessions now, so the day by day process will continue.

"If everything runs smoothly it's a six-day process but, often, it can be a little bit longer than that."

Do you know where these former Terriers are playing now?

The Verdict:

As much as the Terriers would like to speed up the recovery process for this injury, their hands are tied as there are mandatory protocols that need to be taken.

Grabara suffered a horrible injury and it’s no surprise that he’s sat out for so long in the past few weeks.

Cowley has recruited well to cover this gap in securing the return to the John Smith’s Stadium of Jonas Lossl, adding experience and proven ability to the side.

Grabara will be looking to get his number one spot back from Lossl when he is fit enough to return to the lineup and it will be a huge boost when that happens.
