Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has explained that Jonathan Hogg was taken off as a precaution after taking a few knocks in the win against Bristol City, while Trevoh Chalobah also suffered a knock but should be fine.

The Terriers were in need of a positive result against play-off chasing Bristol City, and they managed to pick up a vital three points to give themselves some breathing space to the teams inside the relegation zone, with a largely dominant display ending in a deserved 2-1 victory.

The one negative from the game was that Hogg was forced off the field inside the opening 33 minutes, after taking a knock to his Achilles and then his knee, while his replacement Chalobah also suffered a knock but managed to complete the rest of the ninety minutes.

Speaking to the Huddersfield Examiner following the win against Bristol City, Cowley revealed that Hogg had been taken off through knocks to his Achilles and his knee, but he suggested that Chalobah should be alright for the weekend having managed to play on after receiving a knock.

He said: "I thought he started the game really well and gave us real aggression and got us on the front foot.

"But he got a kick in the achilles and then he got a whack on the knee. It takes a lot for Hoggy to come off. He was a loss for sure, but I thought Trevoh (Chalobah) came on and did well.

"Hoggy was quite positive when I spoke to him, so we will have to wait and see.

"I think he's (Chalobah) fine. He was able to finish the game and we spoke to him on the way in and he was full of beans. Hopefully he'll come through."

The verdict

The last thing that Huddersfield will have been wanting is to see one of their most influential midfielders in Hogg being forced off the field through injury against Bristol City, but the Terriers did manage to continue to produce a strong performance despite the absence of the experienced 31-year-old.

Hogg had been key to helping Huddersfield get a grip on the game in the middle of the pitch in the first half an hour of he contest, and the Terriers will be hopeful that he is able to recover from the injuries he suffered against Bristol City swiftly, so he can come back into the side and help them move away from the bottom three.

Huddersfield will be pleased that Chalobah managed to make it through the rest of the game despite picking up a knock himself, and the midfielder could be a very important figure for them over the next few weeks, if Hogg is ruled out for any period of time through his injury.

Despite not always having been a starter under Cowley, Chalobah remains a really important option in the squad and the Terriers will be needing him to prove his worth again before the end of the campaign, as they look to build on the win against Bristol City.
