Huddersfield Town are reportedly on the verge of signing defender Harry Toffolo from Danny Cowley's former club Lincoln City.

January looks set to be an important month for the Terriers as it is Cowley's first transfer window since taking charge of the club in September.

You'd imagine the Huddersfield boss will be looking to make a number of additions to his squad before the end of the month and it appears he is close to a deal for a player he knows well.

Sky Sports have reported that the Terriers are close to securing a deal for Lincoln left-back Toffolo, with talks at an advanced stage.

The report claims that the two clubs have come to an agreement on the fee but that the deal is pending a medical and personal terms to be agreed with the player.

Cowley was in charge of the Imps when they signed the 24-year-old as a free agent in the summer of 2018.

The left-back made 52 appearances for Lincoln in his first season at the club, scoring three times, providing nine assists, and helping them seal promotion to League One.

He has been a mainstay in the side once again this term making 32 appearances (one goal and two assists) but it appears his days at the club may be numbered.

The Verdict

This looks like it could be a shrewd bit of business from Huddersfield.

Toffolo is a player that Cowley knows well and, clearly, someone that he respects. The Terriers boss will want to shape the squad around his style and this is a step in that direction.

The 24-year-old was only playing League Two football last season, though, so it may take him some time to get up to speed in the Championship.
