Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel has revealed that Cauley Woodrow could be available for the club's clash with Luton Town on Saturday at Oakwell.

The forward missed yesterday's game with Birmingham City after picking up an injury in last Saturday's 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic.

In Woodrow's absence, the Tykes succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to the Blues as goals from Lukas Jutkiewicz and Alvaro Gimenez secured all three points for Pep Clotet's side.

Although the 24-year-old managed to take part in training earlier this week (via The Star), he was not fit enough to feature at St Andrew's.

Since joining Barnsley from Fulham on a permanent deal in January, Woodrow has become one of their main sources of goals.

The forward helped the club achieve promotion to the Championship last season by finding the back of the net on 16 occasions and his since opened his account for the current campaign.

Speaking to The Star about the former Bristol City man's recent setback, Stendel said: "Cauley Woodrow had a little injury after Saturday, normally he could play but training yesterday he said he could not play and again on the morning he struggled.

"We are a little disappointed, but this is the game. I think he can play Saturday, it was too short of a time for Birmingham."

The Verdict

When you consider that the Tykes only managed one shot on target during their clash with the Blues, the news that Woodrow could return to the action at the weekend will be music to the ears of the club's supporters.

Arguably playing the best football of his career to date, the forward could prove to be the difference against a Luton side who are currently in the Championship relegation zone.

Given that the Tykes sold last season's top-scorer Kieffer Moore to Wigan Athletic earlier this summer, they will be heavily reliant on the likes of Woodrow, Conor Chaplin and Patrick Schmidt to help them gain a foothold in the second-tier this year by providing sufficient firepower up-front.
