Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel has revealed he is pleased with how the transfer window has gone for the Tykes but admits new faces are needed - with centre-backs a priority.

The Yorkshire outfit are back in the Championship after Stendel took the side straight back up in his first year in English football, with the side playing stylish football.

However, such form last year caught the eye and some key players have already left Oakwell, with keeper Adam Davies and defender Liam Lindsay two of the most notable departures recently, with the pair joining Stoke.

Despite that, Yorkshire Post reporter Leon Wobschall caught up with the German today who explained how he is content with what has gone on as well as outlining where the side need to strengthen in a series of tweets.

"Stendel happy with recruitment up to now, but has stressed the need for some experience too to enable them to handle the step up to Championship. Speaks of wanting 3 or 4 centre backs to be competing for places."

The Verdict

It's already been a busy few weeks for Barnsley as they prepare for life in the Championship and it sounds as though there's a lot more transfer activity to come.

Losing Davies and Lindsay in particular has been tough, although the Tykes have moved quickly to replace the keeper.

However, centre-back looks a problem position right now so it's good to see that Stendel is targeting new faces in that area and they need to be quality to replace Lindsay.

Now, the challenge is with the recruitment team to ensure they find the right players and in fairness Barnsley have been smart in the market over the past year or so.
