Daniel Stendel has sent a message to Barnsley fans on social media, after the Championship club confirmed that they have parted company with the German.

Barnsley released a statement on their club website this morning, confirming that they have parted company with their head coach following the team's disappointing start to the Championship season.

Stendel took charge at Oakwell last summer and was able to guide Barnsley to automatic promotion from League One in his first season at the club, but after a busy transfer window, the team have made a shaky start to their new campaign.

After the news was confirmed, plenty of Barnsley supporters took to Twitter to express their disappointment that the German has left Oakwell and Stendel himself has now taken to social media to thank fans for their support.

In a message on his personal

/">Instagram account, Stendel admitted that he was thankful for being given the opportunity to manage Barnsley and thanked fans for their support.

Barnsley are without a win in their last ten league matches and slipped into the Championship relegation zone after being thumped 5-1 by Preston North End at the weekend.

The club have less than two weeks to appoint a new manager before their next game against high-flying Swansea City, but first-team coach Adam Murray has been placed in caretaker charge for the time being.

The Verdict

I think it's such a shame that Barnsley have decided to part ways with Stendel. He's a very good coach and he did a fantastic job at Oakwell last season, guiding the club to automatic promotion in his first season in English football.

He's built a really exciting squad, although the results this season simply haven't been good enough and it seems as though the board feel that the German has taken the club as far as he can.

It'll be interesting to see who Barnsley decide to appoint as his replacement and whether whoever it is can get the club's season back on track.
