Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel has revealed that Cauley Woodrow could be in contention to feature for the club in their clash with Leeds United on Sunday.

The forward, who joined the Tykes from Fulham on a permanent deal earlier this year, has missed the last three games due to a calf injury (via the Yorkshire Evening Post).

However, after returning to training earlier this week, he may be in line to make a cameo performance against the Whites.

Since making the switch to Oakwell, Woodrow has emerged as a key player for Barnsley.

Excellent in League One last season, the forward managed to find the back of the net on 16 occasions as the Tykes secured promotion to the Championship.

Whilst he has yet to fully click into gear during the current campaign, Woodrow did illustrate signs of promise against Fulham and Charlton Athletic before suffering injury.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about the 24-year-old, Stendel said: "Woodrow trained this week and started on Tuesday.

"I think we have missed him in the last games and we are happy that he has trained.

"He is not fit, but he can play and this is the best information.

Stendel also confirmed that Alex Mowatt, who left Leeds to join Barnsley in 2017,  is set to available for Sunday's showdown whilst Jacob Brown may also feature.

However, Cameron McGeehan is facing a race to be fit after only making his return to training earlier today.

The Verdict

When you consider that Barnsley have only managed to pick up one point during Woodrow's absence, the news that he could be about to make his return to action will be music to the ears of their supporters.

Currently 21st in the Championship, the Tykes desperately need someone to step up to the mark over the coming weeks if they are to avoid a potential relegation battle this season.

With Woodrow being their main outlet up-front since Kieffer Moore's departure, Barnsley will be hoping that he can be the man to deliver the goods in the second tier.
